When TV Commercials Where
Introduced In
the 1940's With The Invention of the TV, Many Thought The TV
Commercial Would Never
Work.
Now A Video Advertisement On
Your Website Is Proving To Be One Of The Most Important Things You
Can Do To Compel Website Visitors To Be Interested In Your Company
And To Turn Interested Prospects Into Paying Customers!
Prior to television, commercials used to be
aired on the radio. Before radio, businesses advertised in a variety
of ways with most done through print media. For as long as there
have been people in business, they have sought different ways to
advertise their business. The purpose was to get more sales leads
and generate more revenue for the business. Things have not
changed! Although advertising has come a long way, the
nature of the reason for advertising has not changed since
the early days of advertising.
When television came out in the late 1940's,
advertisers quickly saw this as a good media to sell their products.
It soon became apparent that in addition to "ad men" designing
clever ads for magazines and billboards, they had to film commercial
ads.
There were those businesses who thought that
television would never last. They balked at the idea of spending a
lot more money to advertise on television. And they certainly didn't
want to pay to sponsor an entire program, an early advertising
strategy. The majority of these nay-sayers went out of business!
Television advertising became very successful.
It's a multi-billion dollar business. Why is television advertising
so effective?
Because people are visual!
Now, as more people are using the Internet,
advertisers have turned to this new media to promote their sales.
They started out with banner ads and pop up ads on sites that
catered to the demographics of their main clients, neither of which
really worked very well. Then they began to realize that what worked
for television may also work on the Internet.
According to an UCLA study, 82% of the people in
the United States use the Internet with many using it much more
than they watch television. Advertisers took the next logical
step and began promoting video advertising on the Internet.
However, unlike television advertising, video
advertising on the Internet doesn't cost nearly as much money making
it extremely affordable to any business. A simple video using photos
we bring to life, compelling high impact verbiage that motivates and
excites the viewer and carefully selected background music, for 30
seconds to 2 minutes of video it would only cost the business around
$500. This price increases as you add additional features and
elements to the video like a voice over or a video from a camcorder.
The most expensive video to produce is an
infomercial which can reach prices of $5,000 with an average price
of $2,300 for up to a 3 minute. While this is the most expensive of
the videos to produce, it's also the most effective and generates
the most revenue for a business.
Why Is Video So Powerful and So
Effective?
Bluntly, because people are visual. Most
people would much rather watch television than read a book, and most
people would much rather watch a video about your product, service,
company, etc. than read all of that text on all of those pages on
your website. That's hard to disagree with, isn't it?
That's because it's very true ... we want to be
entertained. Plus, we're lazy and would rather watch and listen to a
video than read an article or web page.
Ever since the advent of television, people
began staying inside and watching TV rather than going out with
friends. Television has had more of an influence on
society during the 20th century than anything else. That is,
until the Internet! With the Internet things started to
change dramatically.
In addition to just watching television, with
the Internet people could research information, interact with others
and even make money in auctions. And each year the Internet becomes
even more sophisticated. There are billions of websites out
there in Internet land. People are now spending more time on the
Internet than they are watching television.
And now that most of the country is on the
Internet, they are also finding different ways to be entertained
online and to handle business online. For example, with the
introduction of the smart phone that has a built in browser so
people can search the Internet from anywhere and anytime, people are
using the Internet to find local businesses to do business with. The
Internet is now making a huge impact in the local business.
The Internet Has Had a Huge Impact
On The Local Business! If You Don't Get With The Times You Will End
Up Going Out Of Business Like So Many Other Businesses Already Have!
Not only are people now turning to the Internet
to research purchases before making a buying decision and using it
like they did the yellow pages to find specific businesses like
"flooring Seattle" or "chiropractor Denver", the Internet is single
handedly forcing businesses out of business or how they
conduct business that have
been around for a century and are intertwined into the very grain of
this great country.
That's the huge impact the Internet is having in
our economy. While it is creating new businesses, businesses that
have been part of this country for 100 years or more are going out of business. Let's take a look
at a couple of very important examples that are dramatically
affecting local businesses ...
Look at newspapers. People just go online to get
their news and therefore don't need a newspaper anymore. Over a 100
newspapers in cities across America have already closed down with
more closing every year. Others are going online only. It's estimated that within the next 10
years there won't be a newspaper left! What about businesses
that relied on newspaper advertisements for their survival? And by
the way, online newspapers do not offer the same advantages that a
hand delivered newspaper offers!
If these businesses don't figure out a new way
of advertising to replace what they did in the newspaper, they will
go out of business. We've watched many businesses go out of business
every year because they only had one major way attracting new
clients.
Now, since 2003, we have been watching the
effects the Internet has had on the Yellow Pages. Because of how
much more convenient the Internet is to access with smart phones and
WIFI's every where, 54% of us are today turning to the Internet to
find a local business over using the yellow pages. Every year this
percent increases. Do you grasp how significant of a factor this
will be in the very thread of this countries economy? How it's
going to cause businesses to go out of business who turn their back
to what's going on and don't take advantage of the yellow pages
replacement, the Internet?
There was a day when the yellow pages would
single handedly make or break a business! Now businesses are
dropping their yellow page ads left and right. (Side
Note: If you're still getting new business and creating a return on
investment from your yellow page ad, you shouldn't cancel it.
Remember, 46% of the people are still turning to the yellow pages,
but is decreasing each year.)
Yet today there are cities that are campaigning
to end the delivery of the phonebook and yellow pages ... why
deliver them when people are just going to throw it away since
they can find everything they need on the Internet?
That's the argument. Just like newspapers will
one day just be a part of our history, nostalgic, within the next 10
years we anticipate it will be the same with the phonebook and the
yellow pages. Everything will be online!
How Much Does Our Being Visual
Effect Our Viewing a Website?
In the early days of the Internet most of the
information was text based ... written out to be read. You looked up information and read it.
If
there was a photo, it would catch your eye. Because it caught your
eye people soon began using
clip art and other visual effects in their ads, emails and websites.
It was soon discovered that websites and advertisers who used some
form of visual stimulation were attracting more people to their
site. This included everyone!
Which would you rather look at ... an
attractive, well designed page with some graphics to add to the
topic or a typed written article written in black font on a white
background?
Easy. The attractive page with graphics. Now,
take that same attractive page and add a fun compelling video on it.
Now which page would you rather be on ... the attractive page with
graphics or the attractive page with graphics and a video?
You're not alone. Human beings are highly
visual. This is why websites with good videos pull so well and turn
a higher percent of visitors into leads, and a higher percent of
leads into sales!
In addition, with all of the advertising people
are being hit with every single day, with all of the scams out
there, with all of the bad deals out there, we've also come to a
point in life when we don't want to be "told" what something can do,
we want to be "shown"! That's video.
Video lets you demo your product. It lets you
show how your product works. It lets people see what they're buying.
It lets people see who they'll be doing business with. It lets you,
the owner or the engineer or the service manager, effectively tell
people via a video on your website important information about your
product and/or company. There are hundreds of things you can
accomplish with video and messages you can share with your website
visitors.
Think about it ... would you rather read about a
product or see a demo of a product?
Video is giving websites a stronger advantage
and is one of the most effective tool to compel a prospect to choose you
over a competitor!
